You can use a Coinepay virtual card to enter card details at Coursera checkout, but a payment depends on the options shown for your purchase and location. This guide walks through choosing a course or subscription, preparing your card, completing checkout, and checking common reasons for a declined payment.

Choose what you want to buy on Coursera

Start with the course or program you want, rather than assuming you need a site-wide subscription. Coursera’s Free Course Preview gives access to the first module of most courses, so you may be able to look at the content before paying for full access.

  • Individual Courses & Programs: Coursera uses this pricing-page label for a single-course purchase or a subscription to a Specialization or Professional Certificate. On an eligible course page, Unlock full access leads toward a one-time purchase. An eligible subscription may instead show Start free trial or Try free for 1 day. Follow the terms displayed for the specific program.
  • Coursera Plus Monthly: A recurring subscription with a seven-day free trial that requires payment details. At the time of writing (October 2026), Coursera listed a US price of $59 per month.
  • Coursera Plus Annual: An upfront annual subscription. At the time of writing (October 2026), Coursera listed a US price of $399 per year.

These US figures are not a quote for your account. Prices, currency and tax can vary by location. Check Coursera’s official pricing page and the final checkout amount before committing, and confirm that the course you want is included in any subscription you select.

Prepare your Coinepay card and billing details

  1. Set up your account. Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification (KYC) before using card services. Use your real identity and details.
  2. Get your card details. In the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app, follow the available steps to issue and manage your virtual card. Coinepay provides an instant card number, expiry date and CVV.
  3. Check available funds. Review the card and funding information in your Coinepay account. Make sure the available amount covers the checkout total, including any displayed tax. For a subscription, plan for subsequent renewals as well as the first payment.
  4. Have accurate billing information ready. Enter your genuine name and billing address at checkout. Check that the details you provide are consistent with the information associated with your payment account.

You can manage Coinepay through its 24/7 self-service dashboard or download the mobile app for iOS or Android. Services may differ by jurisdiction. If you need help with a card setting or a payment attempt, contact Coinepay support.

Sign up and pay at Coursera checkout

  1. Open Coursera and create or sign in to your learner account. Use your real account information. Find the course, Specialization, Professional Certificate or Coursera Plus option you intend to purchase.
  2. Choose the relevant offer. On an eligible course page, select Unlock full access for a one-time course purchase, or Start free trial or Try free for 1 day for an eligible subscription. For Coursera Plus, select the monthly or annual option presented on its subscription page. Button text may depend on the offer.
  3. Read the checkout terms. Confirm whether you are buying once, starting a trial or agreeing to recurring billing. Coursera displays the price before you enter payment details; review the currency, tax, trial end and renewal terms shown for your account.
  4. Enter your Coinepay virtual card details. If card payment is offered at your checkout, enter the card number, expiry date and CVV, followed by your real billing details. Review everything before submitting.
  5. Complete any payment verification. If checkout presents an authentication step, follow its instructions. Wait for Coursera’s purchase confirmation rather than assuming a pending card activity means your enrollment succeeded.
  6. Check the result. Look for access to your course or subscription in your Coursera account. Coursera lists transactions and the next subscription billing date under My Purchases/Purchases. Check your Coinepay account for the corresponding card activity.

Coursera’s payment options depend on location and the particular checkout. A card-entry field does not promise that any specific card will be accepted. If the payment method offered is unclear, check Coursera’s checkout and help information before you submit a purchase.

What to do if Coursera says “card declined”

A “card declined” message does not identify one universal cause. Avoid repeated submissions without checking the details. Work through these possibilities, then ask the relevant support team to investigate if the problem persists.

Insufficient available balance

Compare the available amount shown in Coinepay with Coursera’s final checkout total, not just the headline subscription price. Tax or a different checkout currency may change what is needed. For renewals, check when Coursera is due to bill again under My Purchases/Purchases. If you are unsure why a charge failed, contact Coinepay support with the attempted amount and time, without sending your full card number or CVV.

Billing address or card-detail mismatch

Recheck the card number, expiry date and CVV against your Coinepay account. Correct any typing errors in the name or billing address, using your actual details. Do not enter a different country or invented address to get past checkout checks.

Authentication or 3-D Secure trouble

If an authentication prompt appears, complete it through the legitimate checkout flow and return to Coursera to see whether the payment finishes. If the prompt does not load, times out or fails, try another browser or device, as Coursera’s payment help suggests. If it still fails, ask Coinepay support to review the attempt. Do not assume an authentication screen means the charge completed.

Payment-method or region checks

Check the methods shown at your country-specific Coursera checkout. Coursera’s prices and payment options vary by location, and its service is restricted where applicable export or sanctions rules prevent access. Use your actual location; do not use a VPN or inaccurate billing details to get around eligibility or payment checks. If you cannot tell whether your card qualifies for the option shown, contact Coinepay support before buying and ask Coursera support about its checkout requirements.

If you started a free trial, a pending US $1–$5 authorization may appear. Coursera says this tests the payment method, is not a completed charge and ordinarily disappears within five to seven business days. Check your Coursera account for trial access and its billing date rather than treating that authorization as proof of a successful subscription.

Manage renewals, cancellation and refunds

Coursera subscriptions renew automatically. Find your next billing date and transactions under My Purchases/Purchases; Coursera places card updates under Account Settings. If you start a monthly trial and do not want the first subscription charge, cancel before the trial ends. You can cancel through My Purchases or Coursera support to stop future billing. Cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and cancelling alone does not request a refund.

If you want to move between Coursera Plus Monthly and Annual, Coursera does not offer a direct switch: cancel, wait for the current billing period to end, and then check out again on the preferred option. Review the new price and terms before paying.

Refund rules depend on the purchase. For Coursera Plus Annual, request a refund of the first payment within 14 days if eligible; Coursera’s stated policy does not refund annual renewal charges. For a one-time course purchase, a full refund may be available within seven days of payment or before you earn a certificate, whichever comes first. Guided Projects have no refund under the stated policy. Other subscription payments are generally nonrefundable, subject to Coursera’s stated exceptions and applicable law. Check the terms for your purchase and submit any refund request to Coursera; stopping a card payment is not a substitute for cancelling the subscription.

FAQ

Can I use a Coinepay virtual card for a Coursera free trial?

You can enter it if card payment is offered at your checkout, but acceptance is determined during payment. Coursera Plus Monthly’s seven-day trial requires payment details; cancel before it ends if you do not want the first charge.

Where can I see when Coursera will charge me again?

Check My Purchases/Purchases in your Coursera account for your transactions and next subscription billing date.

Why does Coursera say “card declined”?

Possible causes include insufficient available funds, incorrect card or billing details, an incomplete authentication step, or checkout requirements for your location. Check the displayed total and your details, then contact support if needed.

Does cancelling Coursera automatically refund my payment?

No. Cancellation stops future billing under Coursera’s terms but does not itself request a refund. Check the policy for your purchase and submit a separate refund request to Coursera if eligible.
